History Of Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization began after search engines became popular for browsing information. Search engines were created to serve as an online catalogue of new Websites. Optimization of sites for these search engines began in the 1990s.
Optimizing a site was not the tough job in those days as it is now. In fact now we need to hire consultants and search for ways to get picked up by a search engine.
After finding the words the search engines would sort the topics requested in a certain order and display results. This was possible when the information on the World Wide Web was small. As the online information grew to millions of pages the search engines also had to become more savvy and technical.
Search engines began to sort their web listings by showing the most relevant pages in the beginning of the search in order to accommodate the growing universe of online information. It was the webmasters who supplied information to the search engines in the beginning and they started keying in categories and keywords and metatags or index files in engines.
Metatags were a guide to each page’s content. A lot of important information about the website could be stored within the HTML source of a page. This would help search engines pick up the webpage based on these meta tags.
As technology grew sophisticated and webmasters found back end entry to get listed on search engines the search engines also needed to grow smarter. They adapted Search Engine Result Page to display relevant search results rather than irrelevant web pages.
